WICT 2009 Mid-Year Outlook: Forging Ahead on a Road to Recovery
By Leanne Martin

Look out, Suze Orman! Well spoken and well-dressed in a bright yellow blazer, Laurie Vargas, CFP, Financial Consultant from LPL Financial, opened WICT’s September 28 financial event by introducing a panel ofsix other financial experts. The panel included:

  • Chad Swats, ChFC, Regional Vice President, Nationwide;
  • Fred Lassar, Regional Vice President, InvescoAim;
  • Jason Chura, ChFC, Regional Vice President,
  • ING Investment Management;
  • Linda Duessel, CFA, CFP, CPA Senior Vice President, Federated Securities Corp.; and
  • Woody Harris, Senior Director, Rydex/SGI.

Beginning the session with a summary of the bleak economic events since 2008, the panel was consistent in the message that the market trends are on their way back up. “Recovery started at the end of June,” said Linda Duessel of Federated. “The upward swing of the market looks promising.” Though the market is expected to remain volatile in the second half of 2009, Laurie commented that “right now is a great time to buy low and sell high later.” Fred Lasser, Regional Vice President of InvescoAim, added, “The market is a resilient vehicle of wealth. The market always recovers.”
The panel assured the audience that whether you are a seasoned financial investor or just starting your investment journey, there are numerous ways to build your portfolio. No matter what the economic climate is, the panel advised that you “diversify” and work with your financial advisor to assess your risk tolerance and discuss which investment options are right for you.
